Fix a Tired Facebook Ad in One Chat: The Creative Improvement Loop

Look at an ad's image and numbers, work out why it slipped, upload a new image, build a new version and launch it paused. All in one conversation with AdChat.

Updated October 24, 2026

Most ads don't die overnight. Click-through rate drifts down, cost per result creeps up, and by the time you notice, the ad has been losing money for a week. Fixing it in Ads Manager means jumping between the reporting tab, the creative, your image folder and the ad set. In chat you can do the whole loop in one go: look at the ad, figure out what changed, make a new version and put it next to the old one, paused.

Who this is for

Anyone with an ad that used to work and doesn't anymore, or an ad that never quite got going and needs a second attempt.

What you need

  • AdChat connected to your AI app or the built-in chat.
  • Write access for steps 4 to 6. Steps 1 to 3 only read your account. See turn on write access.
  • A new image at a direct link, such as https://yoursite.com/images/new-photo.jpg, if you want to change the picture. AdChat can't upload videos, but it can use a video that's already in your ad account.
  • An AI app that can look at images if you want feedback on the visual itself. Claude and ChatGPT can. Some coding tools can't.

Step 1: Find the ad that slipped

Compare my ads' results for the last 7 days with the 7 days before. Which ads have a falling click-through rate or a rising cost per result? Only include ads that spent at least $30.

AdChat pulls both periods with get_insights. What a good answer looks like: a short list of ads with both numbers side by side, for example "CTR 1.8% → 1.1%, cost per purchase $14 → $23", and a note on which one is costing you the most.

Step 2: Look at it properly

Show me the full creative for "Summer Linen - Lifestyle": the image, primary text, headline, button and link. Then show me how often people have seen it and how its results changed week by week over the last month.

This uses get_ad_creatives, get_ad_image and get_insights. Frequency matters here. If the same people have seen the ad four or five times in a week and results are falling, they're probably tired of it.

Step 3: Ask why

Based on the image, the copy and the numbers, why do you think this ad is slipping? Give me your two most likely reasons and what you'd change for each.

What a good answer looks like: specific reasons tied to what's in front of it. "Frequency is 5.2 and CTR halved in two weeks, so the audience has seen it too often" is useful. "Consider refreshing your creative" is not. If you get the vague version, ask for specifics.

Common answers:

  • Fatigue: high frequency, falling CTR, same audience. Fix: a new image or a new opening line.
  • Weak hook: low CTR from the start. Fix: a clearer first line or a more eye-catching image.
  • Clicks but no sales: fine CTR, poor conversion. The ad may be fine. Check the landing page or the offer before you change the creative.

Step 4: Make the new version

Change one main thing so you can tell what worked. If fatigue is the problem, change the image and keep the copy. If the hook is weak, keep the image and rewrite the first line.

For a new image:

Upload this image to my ad account: https://yoursite.com/images/linen-beach.jpg

upload_ad_image fetches it and returns Meta's ID for the image. Then:

Create a new creative using that image with the same primary text, headline, button, link and Page as "Summer Linen - Lifestyle". Show me the full creative before you create it.

For new copy on the same image:

Write three new opening lines for this ad that lead with the free returns offer. Keep them under 125 characters.

Pick one, then ask the AI to build the creative with it.

Step 5: Put it next to the old one, paused

Create a new ad called "Summer Linen - Beach v2" in the same ad set as the original, using the new creative. Keep it paused.

New ads are created paused. Check it in Ads Manager's preview, then turn it on:

Turn on "Summer Linen - Beach v2".

Leave the original running for now. Meta will start splitting delivery between the two, and you'll have a fair comparison.

Step 6: Check back and close the loop

A week later:

Compare "Summer Linen - Lifestyle" and "Summer Linen - Beach v2" since the new one went live: spend, CTR, cost per purchase and frequency.

If the new one wins, pause the old one:

Pause "Summer Linen - Lifestyle".

If neither works, go back to step 3 with what you've learned. That's the loop.

Common mistakes

  • Judging too early. A day or two of data is noise. Wait until each ad has spent enough to get a handful of results.
  • Changing everything at once. New image, new copy and new offer together tell you nothing about what helped.
  • Blaming the ad for a landing page problem. If people click and don't buy, the ad did its job.
  • Image links that aren't images. The link has to open the image file itself. Google Drive preview links won't work.
  • Forgetting Meta's review. New ads are reviewed before they deliver, which can take a while after you turn them on.

What to do next

FAQ

Can AdChat make the new image for me? No. AdChat uploads images from a link. You can make the image in any tool, Canva or your AI app's image generator for example, host it somewhere with a direct link, and paste that in.

Can the AI see my ad image? AdChat fetches the image with get_ad_image. Whether the AI can look at it depends on your app and model. Claude and ChatGPT can.

Will adding a new ad reset learning? Adding an ad can shift delivery while Meta tests it. Adding one at a time keeps that small.
