How to Connect Facebook Ads to ChatGPT with AdChat

This guide walks you through connecting your Facebook and Instagram ads to ChatGPT with AdChat. Once it's set up, you can ask ChatGPT questions like "Which campaign had the cheapest leads last week?" and it will answer using your live Meta ads data.

AdChat is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI apps connect to outside tools. ChatGPT supports remote MCP servers, so all you need is AdChat's URL.

Before you start: check your ChatGPT plan

OpenAI controls which accounts can add custom MCP servers, and this has changed a few times. At the time of writing, OpenAI's help center says:

• Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces get full MCP support on ChatGPT web, including tools that make changes. On Business, only admins and owners can add a custom server. On Enterprise/Edu, admins can give other members permission.
• Pro users can connect custom MCP servers for reading and fetching data. That's enough to analyze your ads, but tools that create or change things may not be available.
• Custom servers are set up on ChatGPT web, not on mobile.

If you don't see the options below, your plan or workspace settings may not allow it yet. In that case, AdChat's built-in chat or Claude are good alternatives.

What you need

• An AdChat account with Facebook connected. Sign up, click Connect Facebook, and choose your ad accounts.
• A ChatGPT plan that allows custom MCP servers (see above).

Step 1: Copy your AdChat URL

Open your AdChat dashboard and go to Claude & ChatGPT in the sidebar. Click Copy URL. It's the same for everyone and has no key in it:

Step 2: Add AdChat in ChatGPT

In the current version of ChatGPT, custom servers live under Plugins:

1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins.
2. Click the + button, then Add custom MCP server.
3. Name it AdChat. Add a short description if you like, such as "My Facebook and Instagram ads".
4. Under Connection, paste the AdChat URL.
5. For authentication, choose OAuth.
6. Read the risk warning and tick I understand and want to continue.
7. Click Create as a plugin and review the AdChat tools ChatGPT found.

A browser window opens. Sign in to AdChat, connect Facebook if you haven't yet, and click Allow. You only do this once. ChatGPT stays connected as long as you use AdChat at least once every 90 days.

Older ChatGPT layout (Apps and developer mode)

Some accounts still show the older layout. If you don't see Plugins:

1. Open Settings → Apps and click Advanced settings.
2. Turn on Developer mode.
3. Go back to Apps and click Create app.
4. Name it AdChat, paste the URL into MCP Server URL, choose OAuth, tick the confirmation box and click Create.

Step 3: Ask your first question

Start a new chat, type @, and pick AdChat. Then ask:

@AdChat How did my campaigns perform over the last 7 days? Rank them by cost per result.

ChatGPT only uses an app for the message where you select it. If a follow-up needs fresh data, mention @AdChat again. You'll find more prompts in Your first 10 questions to ask.

Changes and confirmations

AdChat is read-only by default. Until you turn on Write Access in your dashboard, tools that create or change campaigns, ad sets, ads and audiences return a message asking you to enable it. ChatGPT also asks for confirmation before some actions, based on the app's permissions. And AdChat creates new campaigns, ad sets and ads paused unless you clearly ask for them to go live.

Troubleshooting

I can't find Plugins, Apps or Create app. Your plan or workspace may not allow custom MCP servers. On Business, ask an admin or owner to add AdChat. Make sure you're on chatgpt.com in a browser, not the mobile app.

OAuth sign-in fails or loops. Delete the AdChat entry, then add it again with https://mcp.adchat.app and OAuth, and sign in.

ChatGPT answers without using AdChat. Select it with @ in that message and mention your Facebook or Meta ads.

A tool says write access is off. Turn on Write Access in your AdChat dashboard if you want changes, or keep it off for read-only analysis.

FAQ

Can I use both ChatGPT and Claude? Yes. Your AdChat account works in any number of AI apps. Use within your own AI apps is unlimited, with a rate limit of 30 requests per minute.

What if my plan only allows read access? You can still ask about performance, wasted spend, audiences and creatives. For making changes, use Claude or the built-in chat.
