AdChat vs Pipeboard: A Fork, an Agent Layer, and an Honest Comparison

AdChat's MCP server is a fork of Pipeboard's. Here is what that means, where Pipeboard is better (free tier, five platforms, bulk edits), where AdChat is (drafts, undo, spend rules, memory, profit), and prices for both.

Updated November 2, 2026

Pipeboard is a multi-platform MCP for driving ad accounts from Claude or ChatGPT; AdChat is a Meta-only agent built on a fork of Pipeboard's own open code, with a draft-approve-undo layer added on top. If you want five platforms, bulk edits and a free tier, Pipeboard is the better buy. If you want every change drafted for approval, undoable and kept inside spend rules, that is what AdChat adds, for $19 (connector) or $35 (agent) a month.

We make AdChat, so this is not neutral. We have kept to what Pipeboard's own website says, as of November 2026, and we say plainly where they win.

The fork, and why it matters

AdChat's MCP server started as Pipeboard's meta-ads-mcp (version 1.0.128, released under the BUSL-1.1 licence). We kept the Meta tool implementations, added our own authentication, an account allowlist and a write-access gate, and then built the agent on top: drafts, a policy engine, change log, undo, memory, monitoring and profit. We sync upstream changes on a weekly routine.

Two consequences. First, if a Meta read tool works a certain way in Pipeboard, it almost certainly works the same way in AdChat. Second, there is no point choosing between the two on raw Meta tool quality. Choose on everything around the tools.

Where Pipeboard is better

Five ad platforms. If you run Google or TikTok as well as Meta, Pipeboard gives you one MCP for all of them. AdChat will not help you with anything outside Meta.

A real free tier. 30 AI runs a week on 2 accounts is enough to run a weekly check-in indefinitely without paying. AdChat's trial ends after 7 days.

Bulk edits and duplication. Agencies that duplicate ad sets into ten audiences, or pause forty ads at once, will miss this in AdChat.

More integrations for builders. n8n support and a source-available codebase make Pipeboard the better base if you are building your own automations.

Scale. Pipeboard reports more than $800M of estimated monthly ad spend across connected accounts, with a methodology note. AdChat is a small independent product run by one founder.

Where AdChat is better

The approval loop. Pipeboard's safety advice is to review what you ask the assistant to do. That works until a model misreads "raise the retargeting budget a bit" as doubling it. In AdChat, the write tool returns a draft, not a Meta call. You see "Ad set 'Retargeting': $40/day → $80/day. Needs your OK: +100% budget" and decide. This works in Claude and ChatGPT through the MCP tools, not only in our chat.

Undo. Pipeboard offers an audit log export on its Enterprise plan. AdChat records the before state of every change and reverses most of them in one click for 30 days. Budgets, statuses, bids, targeting and names restore; created objects are undone by pausing; creative edits and objective switches cannot be reversed and the draft says so first.

Rules in code. A cap on budget increases per 24 hours (default +20%), an account-wide daily budget ceiling, protected campaigns, approval above a dollar amount. Rules are set in the dashboard and enforced by code, so nothing in a chat message or an ad name can loosen them.

It does things without being asked. Monitoring every six hours with eight detectors, alert emails with a suggested change you can approve from the message, a Monday report, and a first-run audit that drafts fixes the moment you connect. Pipeboard waits for your prompt.

Memory and profit. Goals, notes and measured outcomes of past changes go into a briefing the agent reads before every answer. Connect Stripe or Shopify and it shows MER and profit after costs beside Meta's attributed ROAS. See MER vs ROAS.

A chat of its own. No Claude or ChatGPT subscription needed on the Agent plan.

Price, honestly

For a single Meta account at light use, Pipeboard's free tier beats AdChat MCP at $19. Pipeboard Pro at $29.90 and AdChat Agent at $35 are close in price but not in kind: one is a bigger remote control, the other is a co-pilot with a brake pedal. Above that, Pipeboard's Premium ($99) and Agency ($199) buy more accounts and platforms; AdChat has no higher tier and caps at 3 ad accounts.

If your question is "which is cheaper", Pipeboard. If it is "which one stops me, or the model, from making an expensive mistake", AdChat.

Using both

They do not conflict. Plenty of people will keep Pipeboard for Google and TikTok and add AdChat for the Meta account they worry about most. In Claude or ChatGPT, name the connector in your prompt: "Use AdChat to draft a pause on the Summer Sale ad set." Setup guides: Claude, ChatGPT.

Who should pick what

  • Freelancer running 5 Meta accounts and 3 Google accounts. Pipeboard Premium. AdChat's 3-account cap and Meta-only scope rule it out.
  • Shop owner spending $50 a day on Meta who lost $400 last month to an ad set nobody paused. AdChat Agent. The monitoring and the daily cap are the point.
  • Developer building an ads automation in n8n. Pipeboard, source available.
  • Marketer who wants to try the idea for free. Pipeboard free, or Meta's own Ads MCP if your account is enabled. Come back to AdChat when you want the approval layer.
  • Someone who has never used Claude or ChatGPT. AdChat, because of the built-in chat.

FAQ

Is AdChat a Pipeboard alternative?

For Meta ads, yes. AdChat covers the same Meta reads and writes (it is a fork of Pipeboard's Meta server) and adds drafts, undo, spend rules, monitoring and memory. It is not an alternative for Google, TikTok, Snap or Reddit.

Is Pipeboard free?

Yes, there is a $0 plan with 30 AI runs a week on 2 accounts. Paid plans start at $29.90 a month, with annual billing equal to ten months. Prices checked November 2026.

Does AdChat have a free plan?

No. There is a 7-day trial with no card that includes the Agent plan. After that, $19 a month for the MCP connector or $35 for the agent.

Can I use Pipeboard and AdChat in the same Claude account?

Yes. Add both as connectors and say which one should act in each prompt.

Does Pipeboard have undo or an approval step?

Not as of November 2026. Pipeboard's site describes paused-by-default creates, read-only scoped tokens and, on Enterprise, a 90-day audit-log export. Review happens before you send the prompt.

Why fork Pipeboard instead of writing a new server?

Because the Meta tool layer is well made and the interesting work is above it. Forking under BUSL-1.1 let us spend our time on the agent, and the weekly upstream sync means Pipeboard's Meta fixes reach AdChat users too.
